#1, There's stories of A-10 pilots limping home with one engine and both wings blown off.

It can keep flying even if it loses on of it's vertical stablizers too... this thing is like a flying version of the terminator, it will keep coming after you even if it has no legs.....

I love this beast. A fuckin' tank with wings. Hey, anybody know it's real name? (A little aviation trivia) And where the name came from?

#10 Nope, Warthog's her nickname. Kinda like how they call the B-52 Stratofortress "BUF" (Big Ugly Fucker)

#15 So close. She's actually the A-10 Thunderbolt II. That's where the trivia comes in. The first Thunderbolt was the P-47 from WWII, which had an equally outstanding reputation for battle survivability. There have been rumors of the old "flying cigar" (nicknamed for her stubby shape) coming home with hundreds of bullet holes and a dying engine, all with an unharmed pilot. Yeah, I know, I'm a freak. I've studied that stuff since I was a kid. My ass of a father flew in an A-10 when he was in the Air Force.
