Now, do either of you know what Pontiac called it before Mopar got the idea? |

I dunno, but Olds toyed with the idea of a Hemi in '71. |

Olds created probably their best engine when they had the Stage I 445, that thing had over 500 ft/lbs torque, STOCK! |

Pontiac Motor Division used the setup as early as the late '50s under the title "Tri-Power". It's claim to fame was it's use on the GTO's 389ci (360hp, 431lb.-ft.) until a corperate edict banned it's use on everything but the Corvette in '67. |

#24, Not in the "MOPAR" sense, I think. Just an engine with hemispherical heads (which is basically what a Hemi is). |

#24, I worked at a gas station holiday Monday this week. No business means we sit around, shoot the shit and read Hot Rod. It was in an old issue. |

Mopar had a Hemi before that, infact my dad rebuilt one from way back when, like a 352 or something. |

Triple carbs were an option on just about every muscle car era Mopar, including Challengers and Cuda's, it was the inexpensive inbetween from stock to hemi |

#27 Pontiac played with an experimental hemi, too. A Pontiac 327 in the early '60s, if I remember right. Before you all laugh me off the site, yes, I know Pontiac never had a 327. It was an experiment that never saw production. |

Hemis were avaible back in the 50's I think, but they were expensive to manufacture and heavy |

I take it back, it was a 354 Hemi.
I was thinking of the 392. |

#33, Kinda like the experimental Ford OHC Nascar engine that they decided not to offer to the public when it cracked 600HP in testing...... |

#36 I don't think the Pontiac hemi was that bad-ass, but it may have been. It was cool-lookin', too, like abstract art. Would've kicked ass. |
