IIRC, didn't the "Funny Car" class start out something like...

Some people in the Super Stock class started dicking around with the wheelbase on the cars and/or moving the locations of the axles, doing a lot of bodywork to make the car still appear stock... then finally NHRA officials started looking at the cars closer, and something looked "funny" about them... so instead of trying to get rid of those kinda cars, they just went, "Aw fuck it, let's just make a new racing class"...

#11, Yep....it started with the altered wheelbase "AFX" class in the 1960s. Crazy times.
