Except for a stupid damage-assesment system, Driver was a great game! I loved jumping gravel piles, J braking, powersliding down narrow alleyways, and then watching in my rearview as the black and whites pilled up 3 deep....

I liked the original Driver more than Driver 2...Driver 2 was really buggy and got choppy and slowed-down a lot... Driver was just much more simpler.

But, in both of them, one of the best parts was the replay director mode... I could mess with that forever...

#5, Aren't you a tad young to be playing those games? Well, if your parents don't have a problem with it, I don't...anywho...

Kinda similar on my side of the internet... I had GTA2, then got Vice City...skipping GTAIII, then I eventually got around to GTAIII, and now I like it more than Vice City.

#6, The best "replay" footage I ever got was in the "persuit" mode where you had to chase another car around the city and ram his car out of comission. I had one where I could do no wrong, he'd try going down alleys, cutting sharp intersections, driving down the wrong side of a parkway, etc, and he just couln't lose me, and of coures, there was the prerequisite plowing into boxes/phone booths/construction barriers. The chase finaly ended when he made a wide sweeping right hand turn, I cut to the inside of him, pulled even to him and the apex, and the PIT'd him into a wall, my car flipped up and actualy ROLLED ONTOP of his, both ruined, smoking messes, it was better than anything I've seen HOllywood accomplish

#9, Yeah, I've had some wild chases... when I was still in PA, we had Driver on the computer up there, it was awesome. My computer down here is too antiquated to handle that game at adequate display quality.

A memorable one I had on the SF level was when I was chasing a guy. We were coming down one of the steeper hills (oh so cliche' I know) and we're approaching an intersection.

he gets on the brakes and starts to cut right. I nail the gas and backend him, hoping to just spin him around. Instead, he wobbles a bit, fishtails, and loses it in the OPPOSITE direction, where he slides in front of, and is NAILED by a streetcar......... his damage went off the scale, I won the mission.

EAT THAT STEVE MCQUEEN

#11, Awesome. I kinda still miss playing Driver on the PC up north.

...and I'd just like to state for the record in this thread that Driv3r sucks. The original Driver was, is, and probably will always be, the best. Unless, of course, videogame companies pull their heads out of their asses.

#12, I agree. Driver was awesome. Driver 2 was cool because you could get out of the cars. Driv3r sucks totally. The only thing it has going for is the driving parts. On foot was better in 2 than it is in Driv3r. They should have spent more time on it.

#14, Driver, and Interstate 76' probably are the only decent car-oriented action games you'll find in the era of games before GTA

#15, Carmageddon was psychotically fun. (another case where the original was better, and the sequels slowly but surely got worse and worse.)

#17, Indeed, what the HELL happened between 2 and 3?????

*lacky runs into office*

"hey J.L., I just spent all morning in a freshly-painted room with poor ventilation, and I got to thinking, what we need next in this series of auto-racing pedestrian-killing games is LESS racing, LESS killing, and MORE puzzles!!!! Gamers LOVE puzzles!!"

"I like it, tell me more!"

#18, The 2D pedestrian sprites in the first one were so hilarious (some of the female pedestrian sprites were downright sexy)... when they moved the pedestrians to 3D in Carmageddon2, they just looked blocky and ugly, and the cars didn't have the "edge" that they did in the first one. The 3rd one was just shit. I only saw screenshots, but heard that there were no more "pedestrians", rather, it was zombies or some shit like that...

The unpolishedness (is that a word) of the first one is what made it such a crazy game.

#19, No, there were 3d pedestrians in 3, the only problem was, you no longer got points for killing them, only if it was part of the "mission" to do so. Like, Imagine the "mission" parts of each Carmageddon 2 level, and that WAS the plot of 3, that's why it sucked so bad
