#10, THat's how he was drawn in the late 70's when the strip debuted, he was meant to look and act like a normal and fat housecat, he didn't start walking around on his hind feet and acting like a more "Cartoonish" cat for several years.
keep in mind, the strip is almost 30 years old now......

#15, They didn't eat Lyman, he just disappeared. Originaly, That's where Odie the dog came from, he was Lyman's pet, and Lyman moved in with Jon (Garfield's Owner) But by the 2nd or 3rd year, Lyman had vanished, and both Garfield and Odie had become mutual pets of Jon
