$42,000, and that's all he came up with. He could've done SOOOO much better.

That article is hilarious. Someone should submit it to Linkage.

It's a fad, and a dying fad at that. I'm glad the mainstream media is finally seeing how silly it all is.

quote
"Quote:
"You bought that Civic used for, what, $6,000? Give a tuner two years and he’ll spend three times that turning your economy car into the ultimate street machine."

And how would they do that....

quote:
"No, lots of neon. Neon trim on the seats. Neon runners on the undercarriage. Neon rings on the exhaust pipes"

So thats how one makes the ultimate street machine....ill keep that in mind for my next car.......

Quote:

"Now, a demon-red Hyundai Tiburon with robotic-looking ground effects, euro tails and finished off with a Japanese aluminum wing? That is hot."

Any one else see anything wrong with that sentence????????"

$42,000 later he still is running mid 15's. I work full time, and am not in collage. How can he afford to waste that kind of money? Oh ya mommy and daddy.

Here's how you can tell the import thing is dying:

1. First of all, the fact that you never hear about import drag racing anymore. I think it's because people have finally caught on that they're spending more money for a slower car. Take the "Muscle vs. Imports" drag races every year: Race-only imports are allowed to run, but race-only V8s are banned because they have "too much of an advantage". I know that not all drag racers are ricers, but all ricers are drag racers.
2. Mainstream media making fun: Ricers tend to be laughed at in most entertainment mediums now. Apart from the Slow and the Happy, no one in Hollywood really seems to be embracing the rice-thing.

#8, Really! Pick up any issue of Car Craft: Cost to build is usually under $20k, and the cars run 10 second quarter miles while looking totally friggin' awesome.

#7, Hell yeah. That just renewed my faith in humanity: Well, what little I had before reading that NBC article.

It isn’t cool, though, to just throw anything on your car. Neon, for example, is embraced only by the newbies. Among hard-core tuners, neon is ... well, it’s tacky. Now, a demon-red Hyundai Tiburon with robotic-looking ground effects, euro tails and finished off with a Japanese aluminum wing? That is hot.

#6 yeah jurrell, i see a problem with the last sentence: "that" in "that is hot" should be italicized, like in the original article
