#24, I think we should blame Steve Jobs instead. I haven't figured out exactly how to hold him responsible for that, but I'll think of something. Or maybe that McNealy jerk over at SUN.

#32, I pick my image formats based on context. ".jpg" works well if you're dealing with photos or continuous-gradient images (that's what it's meant for), but it's lossy and tends to distort sharp edges. ".gif" works well for images with a small number of colors, but it has palette limitations. ".png" is useful for those cases in between--where you've got a palette larger than 256 colors, but want sharp edges. I use it for drawings, and screenshots of my desktop--generally it results in an acceptable file-size.
