A professional bicycle racer and auto mechanic, Louis emmigrated to Canada and then the US in 1900, and by 1905 was winning races. By 1910, he was an established racing star, with a bit of a checkerd past. HIs wild driving style resulted in many crashes that hospitalized him for a period of several years and killed 3 of his mechanics. That year he was hired by GM to build a new car for them, the Chevrolet. But it's over $2,000 price tag made it unaffordable to all but the very wealthy, when GM proposed cutting the price tag to make it more competitive with Ford cars, Louis resigned and sold his stock for peanuts. He would regret the decision, none of his buisness ventures after that succeeded, and he died relatively obscure in 1941
