David Pearson's Mercury slids wildy after hitting the wall on the final lap of the 1976 Daytona 500, despite the damage, Pearson was able to coax his car accross the line ahead of Richard Petty, also involved in the same wreck, and claim the win

Had Petty remembered to put in the clutch during the crash, he may have won. His Dodge suffered major damage, but was still driveable after the wreck, but stalled out on the infield grass only yards from the line and couldn't get his engine to restart. Pearson who had clutched in when he hit the wall was able to keep his motor running and even managed a vicotry lap. To give you an idea how far out in font of the field these 2 were, 3rd place went to Benny Parsons, who was only running on 7 cylinders

#2, Saw video highlights of this...AWESOME...this is one of THE main reasons for the sport's growth in the late 70's to the late 80's.
