UPS dropped these off today. I had to replace the racing-style skates I'd been using for the last two years because the axles kept stripping out and I needed new boots. Since a decent set of skate boots can cost quite a chunk of change, and the style I was used to had been long discontinued (plus the fact that a full axle set for those frames was nearly $50), I looked around online for cheap skates.
www.skates.com had these on sale for ~$190 and I'm very impressed. Frames have fully adjustable toe-in/toe-out (like a proper racing skate) and are double-void extruded (possibly one of the most expensive manufacturing processes used for skate frames). They've got 80mm wheels, and overall they're pretty comfortable, although I've not yet gotten to skate with them. |

#2, Don't make me post a pic of my knees. :-P I've been doing this stuff for a while, and although I like to think I've gotten pretty good at it (I just do long distances at high speed, no tricks/jumps) stuff happens. |

I do about an hour of this every morning at 6AM during the school year. I've got a fairly long route around the UCF campus that I can cover a little over twice in that amount of time.
I don't find that I skate as much at home, though, mainly because I just have a job at a supermarket right now. I doubt I'd have the stamina to cover 15+ miles on skates through city traffic, then haul around shopping carts all day. |

i'd like to get some new aggressive K2s or solomons, but would settle on some bauer vapors and my own ice rink. :P |

#6, I don't have the reflexes or balance for aggressive skating. I'd probably just augment my roadrash scars with some broken bones.
Well, that and I'm sort of addicted to going fast. :-) |

#7, i'd most likely get a regular pair of skates next as aggressive skates are a bitch to take care of as well and i skate on a golf course path (which would really tear up aggressive skates) more often than at a skate park (none nearby).
is it common to see people skating to class at your campus?

#8, I see a few people skating to class, but it seems to be mostly pedestrians (and asshats on bicycles running them over). I actually walk to class, which is why I usually go out so early in the morning--I'm trying to avoid as much traffic as possible because I find that most people do some unpredictable stuff when I'm approaching at full tilt. :-/

#9, i had a friend buy some skates in ny when we were visiting.
he wore them everywhere from the hotel to getting on the subway.
my college is a preppy commuter type so most people would rather drive and wait 15 mins on parking then look "different" by getting to class on time on skates. |

#10, I've lived on campus for the three years I've been at UCF so far, simply for the purpose of avoiding the commute. Our campus isn't too bad to walk across; I can get from my apartment at the outskirts of campus to any academic building within ~15 minutes without much difficulty (on foot). |

#16, Oh. I can get by on about 7 hours of sleep on a daily basis, but anything much less than that and I really start lagging. |

Now that I'm back at the campus and finally have some decent sidewalks to skate on, I've finally gotten to use things things several times. VERY fast for a "retail" 5-wheel setup. |
