#2, Both of my parents' cars are convertibles. Hardtop all the way. :-P

I prefer hardtops too, but convertibles are okay. I wouldn't not buy a car on the basis of it being a convertible.

Tends to add weight due to the added reinforcement most manufacturers add to the car's floorpan, provides less protection in a rollover, and generally ruins the lines of the car when the top is up.

But hey, I'd still drive the Porsche.

#4, I WOULD buy a car on the basis of it being a convertible... I absolutely LOVE convertibles. But that's just me.

#8, I'm ambivalent towards them, myself. Not something I'd strive to get, but I wouldn't exactly mind one.

#11, What is your problem with them? SOME of us, actually MANY of us (seeing as convertibles have been gaining in popularity by leaps and bounds since 1989) would gladly give up some performance and handling to NOT be surrounded by a cocoon.

I prefer the way a coupe or fastback car looks. If I want wind, I'll just roll the window down.

#16, If you don't feel like discussing why you don't like convertibles, why did you make post #11, knowing someone would want to know why?

#19, Obs gets irrationaly obsessed with getting everyone to agree with things he considers bad ideas, (like his tirades against FWD) he considers convertibles bad ideas because they make the same car heavier than a hardtop version, and to him, the trade-off in that bit of extra weight costing you in accleration or handling isn't worth it. but it's not like WE don't realize that, nor particularly care
