I think this was more to showcase the under-development Kappa platform at the time, rather than showcasing a possible coming vehicle... Admittedly, the design is just horrible... now, an "afterthought" body meant to showcase the mechanical goodies underneath need not be ugly, take the Jaguar XK120, for example :D ...actually, don't take it, I want it.

Compared to most current cars, I actually think this looks pretty good. The chunky, blingy wheels are my only real nitpick.
