#1, Is gas up there as expensive as it is in Europe? I know thats why little ass cars are so popular there.

#7, Good luck with that.

You are lucky though living in a place that doesn't get so involved in international politics. It gets annoying after a while. Especially if you are a liberal right now.

#9, Thats what I love about Santa Cruz. As long as you dont mind learn to ignore dirty, non-bathing hippies. They tend to share my views. Mine usually aren't that extreme though.

#9, Bmarc, Where are you from exactly? From the snow I'd say out east. Probably near the bay or one of the great lakes.
Gas here right now is about $0.79 per liter. Not that high to justify all these little things.
I wanna know why these cars have names like Swift and Colt. Come on, lets name these things more appropriately. The Suzuki Slug.

I don't mind small cars - even if it's what contributes to more than 50% of total car sales for the major brands that operate and have equity here. I guess that's what divides the US/Canadian auto markets.

Post Scriptum: Don't knock the Aveo/Swift/Wave!! If i was a struggling student will debts up to neck and in need of cheap transportation - i'd spring for an Aveo5. GM needs to be competitive with the entry level segment - just like Toyota and it's Echo and Echo hatchback are doing with the Hyundai Accent and Kia Rio. It's still a market segment and there are still consumers wanting cars.

I have sat in an Aveo and was supprised to find that i still had legroom and headroom - so i don't think the car is all that bad. It's not something i'd get attached to - but -

#13, MotorWeek on Speed channel did a comparo...

Toyota Echo 4-door
Chevy Aveo sedan
Suzuki Forenza sedan
Hyundai Accent

They said: The Echo was the most refined, the Forenza the biggest and burliest, the Hyundai the best equipped, but the Aveo was the best overall.
