Description:
We have 4 choices.
I need:
Extended Cab Only (or crew cab, unlikely)
Would Prefer Manual Transmission
Would be kind of cool to see one under 100K miles
Price Cap: $5000
I don't need 4WD, just good gas mileage on the highway
what do you think? who wins? best value? best performance, longevity, durability, awesomeness? |

i know the dodge is missing, they're nice and all, but they're a shade too large and a wee bit more thirsty...even though I do think they're the best looking.
oh and every picture i collected except for the ford was of a 4X4...whoops!

I'd go with an older (last few years) s10, everyone around here uses them for work trucks and they're known to be reliable. Plus the manual is quite fun -when compared with the other choices- in those lil things if they have the 6 according to people i've talked to. |

My father had over 190,000 miles on his '91 S10 4.3 when he sold it, and never had a major mechanical problem with it (it had ~135,000 on it when he got it). I think the most he ever had to do was have his radiator rodded and put an alternator on it. The guy he sold it to has so far had to replace the fuel pump and one of the pushrods. Not too bad, considering it has something like 220k on it now. Oh yeah, and the 4.3s get surprisingly good gas mileage, too.
So naturally, I'd have to recommend a 4.3 S-10. |

#6, My grandpa has that same model. Also had to replace the fuel pump a month or two ago, and the timing chain awhile back since it was starting to wear or something. It's a good little truck, just entirely too slow with the auto. |

Yota hands down. A couple of my HS buddies have em. Lowered of course, one with 17" Colorado Custom Wildhorses, and another kid, Zach, has a primered, shaved 98 Taco on bags. |

#10, Okay, since RRB let me know that some losers screwed up their Tacomas instead of actually providing any kind of testament;
I'll introduce a new category for your responses: Which one of these is LEAST likely to get majorly screwed up by dorky high school kids? |

#11, Of all of them, that model of Toyota is probably the least likely. Nissan hardbodies are usually screwed up by those types, and I see tons of S-10s and Rangers with bling and altezzas. |
