Interesting sidenote, someone actually entered a Volkswagen Beetle into that race also...I could find no information on how well it did though.

Sometime after this, NASCAR introduced a rule that limited eligible racecars to those based on cars built in America, a rule that is still in use today. I don't if this race had anything to do with that rule.

...and because of that rule, a racecar based on the new Pontiac GTO is not eligible for NASCAR competition, but the Toyota Tundra and Camry ARE eligible to have racecars based on them. Oh well, that's the way the cookie crumbles.

#2, That's a stupid rule, imagine how interesting it would be to see more Jags and BMWs trading paint with Chevys and Fords. Imagine all the EUROPEAN white trash...

#3, Don't think it would be all THAT interesting...NASCAR racecars are pretty much all the same these days, with slight differences in the nose and tailpiece on the car...and they have to run an engine completely designed by their respective manufacturer, but the engine MUST be a ~350ci iron-block pushrod V8 with a spec carburetor...even then NASCAR can deny the use of an engine without reason.

So even if there WERE "European" manufacturers in NASCAR, they'd still be almost identical to the rest of the racecars...

I really want a diecast of this car... if I were into model building, I'm sure I'd be able to get custom decals printed and do it myself, but I'm not into that :(

Anywho, I have a diecast of that #91 car behind it :D That be Tim Flock's Hudson Hornet :)

Item for sale

Speaking of putting decals on cars, I got what I thought was going to be a fully-decalled '59 Rex White Chevy Impala, but it isn't. I don't know jack about applying decals :(

Anyone want it? It's 1/43 scale, make me an offer. Here's an image from an auction for an identical one http://photo.ricecop.com/pics/0c_1.jpg

#2, My bad, the Volkswagen wasn't used in THIS race...
http://www.racing-reference.com/rac...18&series=W

It was used the year before in another race...
http://www.racing-reference.com/rac...16&series=W

...and holy cow, Jaguars, MGs, an Austin Healy, a Morgan, Porsches, and a FREAKING ASTON MARTIN?! Running along side bigass lumbering Hudsons, Plymouths, Oldsmobiles.... I wish there was video of these races...

#3, European trash? Does that even exsist? George Carlin once said "You never see a Rolls Royce that's 50% primer grey"

#13, Thanks, but I later found a 1/64 Rex White diecast, so I'm good. If you DO want that 1/43 model, I can just send it to ya, if you pay me shipping.

#12, Some redneck that I went to school with used to fix up Volvos and BMWs in his spare time. Country as he could be, constantly spitting tobacco, and always driving various 240 series Volvos, and E21, E30, E28, and E24 BMWs. Usually with primer and NASCAR stickers.
