These look like the same ones used in Gone in Sixty Seconds II (which was never completed, though, I have a DVD that showed what footage there WAS shot of it. Pretty cool chase with a semi truck towing two trailers... then some kinda unrealistic chase with some weird car that's a complete wedge [called "the Slicer"]...over 200 cars wrecked in both chases combined...)

Actually, I got this picture from that DVD also...along with many, MANY other Halicki-related photos... most of which are over 60k...dammit.

He built these for The Junkman, IIRC, and they were inspired by the two (count 'em, TWO) Camaros that the CHP used at that time. He made one of them a Firebird, just for the hell of it.

He also developed a system specifically for these cars to make the headlights strobe alternately, which he patented. Nearly all emergency vehicles today have them.

#1, I have the DVD. I think it's AMAZING how the Datsun 280Z split in the wreck (Or maybe it was Junkman). Oh, and skid, I have heard the reasoning for the Firebird was that they found one too cheap to pass up so they did. I could be wrong though. I did not know the emergency fact. Thanks man.

I wish GISSII could've been made into a theatred movie. Too bad HB died. :(

#5, I believe the Datsun was actually rigged to split apart...the behind the scenes stills showed them using a torch on it while setting up the stunt.

GISSII I don't think would have been that great from what I've seen of it. Halicki really concentrated way too much on crashes (the one overwhelming problem with Junkman) and not enough on the high speed daring he exhibited in Gone. Also he apparently discovered pyrotechnics by the late '80s, because every other car crashed in Gone II exploded. >_<

Totally sucks the guy died, though. Who knows what kind of awesome stuff he'd be making now.

#7, i thought every explosion was somewhat cheap. At least they used mundane cars for the most part and didn't kill sweet cars (with the exception of a couple IROCs).

I can only watch cars side swipe each other and erupt in flames for so long

#8, They trashed one or two Pacers. :(

I can only guess that Chevettes were cheap in 1989, as he crashed 8 of them at least in that single chase sequence for GISSII.

#11, I didn't even remember that. Sucks :( You know the movie Black Dog? They murdered 15 IROCs for that movie, and a few too many Aerocoupes. :( We had a little gray Chevette when I was born. My mom bought it new in 1983 I think. She had a blue 1982 and she was hit by a dump truck in Atlanta. We had the gray one till 1992 when we got our Capri.

There hasn't been any really good chase sequences in movies lately, I mean Terminator 3 smashing a fleet of emergency vehicles and a ten ton crane was cool. I'm trying to think of a really good one

Oh yeah, and speaking of Halicki:

I was watching The Junkman again not too long ago, and I freeze framed it when the Magnum and the Thunderbird jump in tandem through the billboard at the James Dean festival. It appears that H.B. Halicki himself is behind the wheel of the Thunderbird, wearing a woman's wig and the black jacket in order to look like the actress. It's actually pretty funny.

#14, That was alright, except for the same 3 GM products being smashed ad infinitum, the inane sword fight on top of a semi trailer, a Firedbird getting smashed :(, and the repetive techno ballad: Dun dun dundundundun dundundundun dun dun dun dun. But it was awesome to see the semis drive into one another and the agent smashing the Oldsmobile was cool as well
