At one point in the late 20th century, two companies were at a crossroads.
The mighty Honda corporation had some fine, reliable vehicles, but did not have a vehicle to compete in the growing sport-utility vehicle class. But, they did not have much experience with trucks or driveshafts for RWD vehicles.
On the other end of the spectrum, there was the smaller Isuzu company, who had a great lineup of trucks, but did not have a car-like minivan to call their own.

The Isuzu company and the mighty Honda corporation crossed paths one day, and they found that they could come to a symbiotic relationship, but it would not last long.

Isuzu agreed to give Honda a rebadged version of their Rodeo, and that came to be the Passport.
Honda, being the larger corporation, did not make the deal balanced. Honda took their recently-replaced 1st generation Odyssey minivan, and let Isuzu have the design, so that they could have a minivan.

This, my children, was the Isuzu Oasis. It was a good minivan, but slightly outdated.

NYC uses these as Taxis or used to. now all their Minivan taxis appear to be new Toyotas

#4, I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not, but I think it's a fantastic idea for a Taxi...it's not quick, but in city traffic, you don't really need to be.

I would think this van, and it's sibling, the 1st gen Odyssey would be better than modern minivans for taxis... swing out doors are a bit easier, IMO, and wouldn't have the tendency to start sticking with age.

#5, i duno, if you ever rode in a nyc taxi...they need all the speed they can get, the drivers slingshot all over and haul ass in some parts especially if you pay them extra

#6, So they have strokers, superchargers and turbos in their cabs? Are they pushing the NAWWWS-button for some extra 30 bucks?

#7, You reminded me of that new movie coming out "TAXI" with Queen Latifah and that dumbshit from SNL... the movie looks REALLY bad. The trailer for the movie itself was boring and utterly stupid.

#8, I am sure, it is not as bad as the two european "Taxi" movies. They were french IIRC and featured a horribly riced out white Peugot-taxi.

Edit: Queen Latifah? okok... at least as bad...

Damn, I remember these from New York in 1999 (for some reason most of the minivan cabs were Oasiseseseseses despite the fact that Oddysseys far outsold them)
