Only 180? Why is that? Even the slowest cras have a Tach that goes to 200-220.

Not uncommon. I know there used to be a lot of US speedometers that only went to 85 MPH, and mine only goes to 120 MPH (193 km/h).

#6, same here. I hate having to see 60MPH on my speedometer first and then seeing the tiny sized 100KPH beneath it. But that's just the one problem with 3rd gen "cameros".

Damn Yankes!!! Go metric like everyone else.

Doesn't Great Britain still use miles and mph? (I know Canada is metric in that regard)

#9, Pfft, make us you silly hockey-playing twits :D

FWIW, metric is used in all offical scientific and researched-based disciplines here, but, the man-in-the street continues to and always will use english measurements, there really is no burning desire to switch because there really isn't a need, no one is interrested in changing

#14, It can get tricky sometimes... remember the Mars Lander crash a few years ago, where they accidentally measured the distances in feet, even though the computer was using meters?

As Robin Williams put it, (typing from my memory, not an actual script)
Maybe they were stoned... "Oh maaan... I totally spaced on the unit of measurement... the fucker BURIED..."

#15, True, but that was a mix up between scientists who wrote up the trajectory programs in metric, like they should, and part contractors who built the computer to accept only english measurements. If we all switched to metric, that particular mistake wouln't have happend, but, there's no garuntee that the thing was going to make it to Mars in the first place, space exploration is a bit on the tricky side

But my original point stands, there's no real desire to make the switch in this country, the only argument I ever hear in favor of switching is because "everyone else" has, and that's a pretty darn weak argument.

By that same argument, the Brittons should start driving on the right because everyone else does

Exactly what benefits are going to be reaped by switching to metric?

I will say that metric works a heck of a lot better for chemistry and physics stuff.

the only good thing the Metric system ever gave us was 5.0 Mustangs and 2 liter soda bottles....oh wait those don't fit in our refridgerator. oh well we still have 5.0 Mustangs.

The soda bottles arenĀ“t measured in .oz?

I like metric as its simple convertion between the units.
1m = 1000mm
1cm = 10mm
1cc = 1mL
1L = 1000mL

Can't get much easier than that.
