the roots are definately a breath of a fresh air in a genre that is rapidly stagnating. i think electronic music is great becuase of the shear range of sounds that can be made or used. You can rearrange live instrument music like shadow does or create complete new sounds that blow the mind.

#24, mellow hip hop, kinda jazzy. i am not a root expert but the are worth investigating. if only to hear hiphop with a live band instead of a DAT ot turntables.

#28, all I have been buying lately is 80s stuff...

'Talk Talk', ABC - Lexicon of Love, FoS, Duran Duran, Wang Chung, ... set me up!

also - Roxy Music is some of the best makeout music ever made...

but I'll stop going on about 80s schtuff..

#37, im running into the same dilemma as you. like, i can see their influence but i dont necessarily care for them myself. kind of like me and the beatles or elvis, i understand how they influenced and changed things, but its just not for me.

joy divison is just on of those bands that people generally hail as the greatest thing since sliced bread. they have some good songs, they were influencial, but greatest...i don't think so.

#16, The Roots is ok. It's original and sounds good. Digital and non-harmonic noises are just not my stuff. I need to feel harmonies, natural weaknesses of instruments, the player's touch on a guitar's neck, etc.. Plus, I hate dancing when I'm not drunk. I admire these guy's talent (Dj Shadow and such) and am absolutly conscient of the effort the put into composition, but it's just not me.
