I don't think they are keeping the solid axle cause the IRS won't fit, I think it has more to do with cost of making a IRS that won't break under that power. all the 03-04s that are drag raced and keep their IRS only tend to get a few passes before the half shalfs break

"Unlike the previous generation Mustang Cobra, the GT 500 will not use an independent rear suspension. Thai-Tang maintains that the slight refinement gain didn't justify the cost, and he promises that the performance from the solid rear axle will be more than competitive."

this follows the ricer mentality of naming. put all the names together we can. Shelby SVT GT500 Cobra, make up your damn mind. no different in my eyes than a GTi-R Si Vspec IV powered by Vtec. its sad.

#45, Uhhhh.... this car will officially be the Shelby GT500... no SVT in the name, no Cobra in the name. Dunno what part of your ass you pulled "Shelby SVT GT500 Cobra" out of, but it sure wasn't the intelligent part.

Shelby has been intergrated into SVT, and Shelby used the "cobra" badge on the original GT-XX0s
