Interesting...

Off-topic... everyone remember that Ford used to make REALLY big trucks?! (larger than their F-650 trucks, like, big semis) ... those big Ford trucks disappeared, and then I noticed a new brand of large trucks, that sorta look like those old big Ford trucks, but they're slightly different looking, and wear the badge "Sterling Trucks"...

Sterling Trucks is owned by DaimlerChrylser, not FoMoCo, so my guess would be FoMoCo was looking to dump their large truck division, and DamChrys bought it up?

#1, Most likley, IIRC, Chrysler had part-ownership of Freightliner at some point as well. You know, I personly think those Sterling Rigs look awesome, very nice traditional rig design that I like a lot more than the goofy stuff Volvo is doing with those CTS style headlights, ick!

Ford and Dodge both had extensive "in house" heavy truck divisions, so did Chevy, but they slowly sceeded that market to compaines like Kenworth and Peterbuilt, Chevy bailed in the early 70's, and Dodge left in the late 70's, though I do still see some heavy rigs with ford badges on them......

#2, DamChrys owns Freightliner outright, have for a while... and it's COMPLETELY SEPARATE from Sterling Trucks, IIRC. I still think Sterling trucks looks a LOT like Ford's old large commercial trucks.

#2, Oh yeah, and if you like classic looking trucks, I'd suggest checking out Western Star Trucks (another DamChrys brand [/Mopar fanboy] ) http://www.westernstartrucks.com/P....=PremiumHighway

Now that I've learned to drive the deuce fairly well, I'm curious as to if I could make the jump to rigs without much problem :D

Oh yeah, to support my theory, a Sterling A-line compared with an older Ford Aeromax (I honestly can't find ANYTHING about "new" Ford heavy trucks, or a picture of one made after the late '90s, so that would lead me to believe they aren't making heavy trucks anymore...)

http://photo.ricecop.com/pics/alineaeromax.jpg

The A-line looks like a facelifted Aeromax to me.

Well, I was right and wrong...

Sterling IS a division of Freightliner trucks, as are Western Star, American LaFrance, and Thomas school busses.

http://www.freightliner.com/inside/facts.asp
"Went on to purchase Ford Motor Company's heavy truck business in 1997 (rebranded as Sterling), bus maker Thomas Built Buses in 1998, and Western Star Trucks in 2000." TaDa...I guess.

edit: Sorry for hijacking your thread...it's just something that's been knawing at me, and I finally found out the truth just now...

American LaFrance, they make Firetrucks dont' they?

And I remember I used to count all the different makes of School Busses at my high school, we had Thomas, Blue Bird (they had the flat noses) Chevrolets, Internationals, and maybe one more I'm not thinking of

Most of the Thomas Built busses we had were Internationals.
