Thats not that hot.
ATI's 9700/9800 cards generally idle around 75 and can peak out near 100. But a quick look at the threshold will show you that you are about half way to being worried about your card.
So far my BFG 6800 has run extremely cool (currently at 47).

The company making the card can make a fairly big difference as well. The new ATI cards (made by ATI that is) have better coolers than they put on the 9700/9800 cards.
Leadtek coolers are usually just reference design, so nothing to fantastic there.
BFG uses reference coolers as well as solid copper heatpipe coolers by their design. My card has the heatpipe version.
MSI makes the shittiest coolers. They really cut costs on their cards buy changing the reference copper cooler to a smaller aluminum one and then painting it copper colour.
Sapphire is going to try some new heatpipe/liquid metal coolers. They have been developed to keep the costs down and should keep tempatures very low under performance loads.

My job lets me play with all the new hardware coming out and see what has certian defects. Before I started working where I am I didn't really think one way or the other about MSI. Now I will not put anything with their name on it in my computer.

#3, What kind of heatsink would you suggest for my XFX 6600 GT? The fan is fairly loud and heats up pretty quick.

#4, We sell some of these at work and so far they seemed to have worked pretty well.

These also work pretty well for cooling and remaining very quiet, but you need a lot of patience getting it on http://www.coolermaster.com/index.p...HC-L61+CoolViva

Welp, looks like I'll most likely get a 6800GT next month. Hopefully it'll be under $250.

Testing out some OC options, I'll probably just leave it stock.
