#1, Because hybrids don't do shit for gas milage - that includes the Prius. You'd need to drive them for XX years before you get any savings in gas. Contrary to Toyota's advertising - as long as you don't use the AC or the defrosters - the Prius might break 35MPG.

The Prius is an example of fear-based advertising. "Buy it because gas prices are out of control!!!!11"

GM has yet to post the Silverado's numbers. I can only bet they won't be spectacular or even newsworthy. Until hydrogen becomes viable, hybrids are for the gulible and celebrities.

a 1939 crosley drove from cincy to LA to NYC to Chicago and averaged 50 mpg. granted top speed was 50 mph and was only 120in in length, but this was before interstates. didnt honda crx hf's get over 40 mpg in the 80's? hybrids really arent all that exciting except for low ened torque that is missing in those smaller motors. they really arent putting hybrids in small cars, the prius is a fairly large sedan. i think a small crx-type car with a 1l hybrid would be great as a daily driver. city mpg would be at least over 40 i think. highway around 50. but you cannot be powerful and fuel efficent. theres a give and take.

#2, you are actually right...the silverado hybrid gives you about 1mpg more in city driving, afaik, and that's for a significant price increase

but a prius gets more than 35mpg, hell my car gets 35mpg and it doesn't drive around on electric power in the city, and the insight averages about 45-50 afaik

it is true that you don't save any money unless you drive a hybrid for at least 4 to 5 years since they cost so much more than a comparable gasoline only car...but i guess some people drive them just to feel better about the environment, and not as much to save money

#6, But when it's a 3 cent increase every week, that tends to add up.

#4, I'm not worried. When the oil runs out - we're ALL fucked - hybrids included.

In the mean time - I'm going to make the most of my time on this earth with a "not-so-fuel-efficent" camEro because I'm not going to have the opportunity ever again.

I may be alone on this, but I think these are the last full-size American pickups that looked good. From this point on, everything got ridiculous, huge headlights, huge grilles, huge bumpers, beds that keep getting taller and taller and taller...

This thing has a defined, handsome fascia.
