Geez, they had electric cars back then? How did it work...were you supposed to sit in it during an electrical storm and hope the car's lightning rod gets struck?

#1, IIRC, electric cars preceeded fossil-fuel internal-combustion cars... I may be wrong though.

They were just so cumbersome, expensive, and had such short ranges, that when internal-combustion became mainstream, it had so many advantages over electric, that electric cars became an automotive sideshow.

Hmmm...not much has changed in over 100 years :P

#4, Something like 5 miles. They used to call them "homing pigeons" because they had to go back to the garage to recharge so often.
