Our drive-thru was indeed very fucked up. There were so many near-accidents because of it.

Well, today was the first day we were open to customers at the NEW McDonald's. ...and just like every opening day, everything went wrong. We lost power to drive-thru's computer system twice, the credit card machines that were supposed to be foolproof and faster weren't working the whole day. The drain for the drive-thru Automated Beverage System (more on that later) was improperly installed, so it wasn't draining, so, after a while, I was basically walking in a pool of melted ice. The screens for grille were working off-an-on, so we had to yell back orders. And the Automated Beverage System kept shutting down. They finally fixed it correctly half an hour before my shift was over. ...and the orange juice machine in drive-thru wasn't plugged in since there wasn't a plug to plug it into. (cont'd)

...but now, the GOOD things about the new store.

-So many fridges now... we have about 4x as many than we did at the old store. Having that much cooling area provides a lot of flexibility.

-The Automated Beverage System is awesome, when it works. It has a revolving cup holder, like a six-shooter, and it drops the appropriate size cup onto a conveyor belt, where it then gets filled with the amount of ice needed, then moved under the nozzle that fills it with the drink. (For carbonated drinks, it fills the drink 3/4 of the way, waits 5 seconds, then adds more, to account for the fizziness that builds up.) All I have to do is cap the drink. Hopefully it works from now on now that they FINALLY fixed it correctly.

-Both the drive-thru and lobby soda fountains have their own ice machines. No more lugging ice for me ^_^

-Our lobby occupancy dropped from 80 to 45, which means less tables and floorspace to clean.

-New menu boards that are easy to switch from lunch to breakfast and vice versa. It doesn't sound like much, but it used to take about 5 minutes to change the menu boards at the old store...now, only about 10 seconds or so.

-A proper drive-thru lane that wraps around the building. Our old one was basically a J-turn in the middle of the parking lot... almost caused so many accidents.

-No more patio seating. Again, less area to clean, and also, it'll probably discourage the kids from the nearby Jr. and Sr. High Schools from hanging around and being a nuisance. All they'd do is sit out there, write on the tables, smoke their cigarettes, and ever so often actually come inside...to get a water cup which they would then fill with soda.

-Bigger and more manageable stock room...makes finding things back there SOOOO much easier.

That's all I can think of right now.

...and now I'm going to work tomorrow too. I usually don't work Fridays, but they could really benefit from my being there...plus, with all the cleaning and construction, I haven't gotten my normal hours for the past 9 or 10 days, so I need to get some more hours in before this pay period ends. I'm scheduled to work Saturday, and I may even go in Sunday for a few hours.

So, goodnight everyone.
