Description:
1958 Indianapolis 500 - The car going over the wall belongs to Jerry Unser. Unser would amazingly survive the wreck with only a dislocated shoulder. In 59' however, he'd crash hard during practice for that year's 500 and suffer fatal burns. His accident would force the mandatory use of fire resistant clothing for all Indy drivers, up till' then, some drove wearing only a T-shirt and jeans. |

#2, Driver death and injury because of massive G-load decelerations remains a problem even to this day, prior to the post WWII era, most of the fatalities were caused by ejection from the car because seatbelt technology wasn't up to par, fire was also a major killer untill rule changes cut down the ammount of fuel that could be carried onboard (in the 60's some cars carried as much as 70 gallons when topped off) that was changed after the 74' Indy 500 when 5 spectators and driver Salt Walther were badly burned in a crash at the drop of the green flag when Walther's car caught the safety fence, broke in two, and sent his gas tank spinning though the air spewing burning clouds of fuel.

What about that GN that hit a pole at like 100 mph and the body was thrown from the frame, but the driver only suffered cuts and bruises?

#4, a gn is fairly modern...i don't know how the driver survived, but he did...plus in that kind of accident, i don't think it matters what you're in
