So it wasn't enought that they disgrace the light, simplistic soul of the original Miata, they have to disgrace the 787B also? :P

#1, they didn't disgrace the miata...the new one weighs like 25lbs more and is just as fun to drive...end of story

#3, It's bigger, has electric everything, a slower revving less enthusiastic motor and fucking cup holders for chrissake! 17" wheels stock?! come on, this car isn't about grip. And perhaps if they were less concerned with adding every electronic convenience possible and making it bigger to pursue some audience never interested in handling and precision in the first place, they could have made it 25 Lbs lighter, perhaps even more!

Edit: in addition, the British mags (EVO in particular), which I find to be more discerning than most of the American mags are saying that no, it isn't as fun to drive. Too much friction in the steering system and far too much grip. Not to mention not as throttle steerable anymore.

#5, Nothing wrong with it, but it's completely against what the Miata has been about for the past 16 years since it's birth. Imagine a lightweight, fun to drive, relatively slow but playful handling coupe badged Camaro. Same thing, fun concept, good car, but a disgrace to the name.

#7, I've never driven a Lamborghini, but I'd be upset if the Focus (great car) was re-badged as the next Murcielago.

hmm... its not a miata. its a MX-5. which was a subname of the miata (think R32), but not its real name. its actually shorter, but taller and wider IIRC

#12, you want to argue, eh? can do...i submit this to you:

Mazda did not disgrace the miata. Mazda is a company, a business, and all they care about is making money by providing what the consumers want. The consumers have been spoiled in the last several years by increasing levels of luxury and refinement in small cars, and expect that from every new car. Through research, Mazda realized that and was forced to alter the recipe of the miata. If they did not, it would not sell as well, and somebody would lose their job in the company. Mazda cannot afford to cater to a small group of specialized consumers that want the original miata and miss out on a lot of sales from every other group. Look at Mitsubishi and the eclipse. Same exact thing. The third and fourth generations were completely different from the previous formula, upsetting a lot of people, yet sales were higher than ever. If you were Mazda's CEO, you would do the same thing. No sense in being bitter about it.
