It's an Acura Integra.

Has this pile ever been positively identified?

My vote goes with a CB7 Accord sedan. Door handles, B-pillar thickness, rear window shape, and 4-lug wheels with hubcaps look correct to me. The fuel filler door (visible in other pics) is in the right place. The stainless window trim appears to have been removed or painted over. An Integra sedan has a much thinner B-pillar than this car.

And if I'm wrong, I'm wrong.

It could have originally been a 1st generation Acura Integra 4 door. Then again, it also looks like it could have been a 1992-onward Civic 4 door, as well.
