It's just absolutely amazing how one can just get lost going from link to link, learning about stuff you never thought you wanted to know about...

...I'm currently reading about the failed SuperDisk and HiFD formats...and am about to brush up on my knowledge of the whole Betamax flop.

Ha, Betamax. Didn't its failure have something to do with refusing to make porn on them?

#2, Nah, it was Sony thinking they had the home video recording industry by its marbles and could dictate what the market would use as far as home video recording. They made deals with eleven other companies to use the Betamax system, Sony getting a cut from each of them...

JVC, on the other hand, decided to risk losing the "licencing" money, and basically made their Betamax competitor, "VHS", an open format deal that anyone could use free of charge. The rest is history.

Ok, so I looked at my TV...it was a Sanyo, so I looked up Sanyo.
Then I looked up Samsung.
Then I looked up Sony.
Then I linked to HiFD, which linked me to Betamax and SuperDisk.
I went back to Sony.
I linked to Playstation... then I went through all the generations of videogame systems...
I somehow ended up at a list of some of the worst games of all time.
I read about Derek Smart... which he definitely isn't. (Uhoh, he might be reading this and will come over to flame us! :P )
...then I started reading about the videogame collapse of 1983, then Sega, and...just too much information, I look up and it's already 10:10pm. Fuck. I gotta go to bed.
