Something is telling me that flying a F1 car at high speeds is generally considered fun only for the morbidly curios spectator crowd. ;)

Might as well use this to discuss F1... (so, unlike Free Post, this post won't disappear in *checks watch* 2½ hours)

...oh holy crap ESPN's new coverage of Formula One this year BLOWS.

No local commentators/analysts... they just direct feed the British SkySports feed. Problem? SkySports doesn't have commercials, whereas ESPN has TONS... and they managed to run the commercials during almost every pivotal moment in the race... with a local commentating/editing crew, they could catch the viewer up on what's happening, but by using a direct feed from somewhere else, no such luck.

They also cut-off the first half of the pre-race show, jumping right in, mid-sentence with no context... which is how they handled cuts into and out of commercial breaks... almost always mid-sentence. They also immediately cut to other programming immediately after the podium celebration. ZERO post-race analysis.

...and new F1 owners Liberty Media (and American company) want to grow the American fanbase like this?! ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!

#4, ESPN

I've highlight the problem right there.

#5, ...yeah, I know, but this was a catastrophe, even by their standards...

The latest rounds of cutbacks axed all their motorsports staff, not surprising.

#4, Holy shit, I was wondering how they would "fix" it... they fixed it by... having NO commercial breaks... pre-race, race, post-race... all commercial-free (aside from a "Mothers Polish" logo in the upper right corner, which was unobtrusive.)

...and they just announced, they will be running F1 races like that FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON 0_0

It makes sense... it came out that ESPN is paying ZERO for the American broadcast rights of Formula One, and by using SkySports' British feed, their production costs are effectively zero, as well. Sunday's race was really REALLY enjoyable... that also comes down to the fact that race strategy made the last few laps EXTREMELY close and exciting.
