The Minardi family owned a Fiat dealership since 1927. Giovanni Minardi started building race cars, his son begun to race in the 60s. In 1972 a race team called Scuderia del Passatore competed in Formula 2. The name was later changed to Scuderia Everest and the team for a short time became an unofficial junior team for Ferrari. In 1980 Minardi build their first F2 car. In 1985 Minardi took part in the first F1 race.
In 21 years Minardi never won a single race. Considered to be the worst F1 team, it was a training tool for young F1 drivers. Some of these rookies reached the very top in F1. Always in deep financial trouble, Minardi nevertheless managed to survive a long time while many teams dissapeared. What was interesting, Minardi never had any problems with tackling the likes of Coloni, Simtek or Forti "teams".

#1, Minardi was also the most enthusiastic F1 team. They rejoice like children everytime both their cars finish the race. Which isn't easy... their cars have a tendency to fall apart in most spectacular, stupid or simply pathetic ways. You could be sure that Monardi will always do something interesting. Like their cars exploding or their inexperienced, bad or simply brain dead drivers crashing. Needless to say, such charisma meant a lot of fans: I count among one of them... I mean, Mianrdi was so weak, it was cute. You couldn't hate them. Just like a small puppy, constantly struggling, tripping, falling down but always standing up and continuing with a simle... only to fall down again.
But now Minardi is no more. Bough out by Red Bull, it was to be called Red Bull Racing Junior Team. But fans would have none of it. The wanted the name Minardi, reeking of racing haritage and Italian passion, to remain. So Red Bull changed the name to... "red bull" in Italian >_< |

I'd sport it. I'm sure they loved the US Grand Prix. |
