hows that 4.2 run? Feel any more bottom torque - I'm assuming it a stroked 3.8 eh? |

4.2 is the engine they used in the F150; it's basically a long-stroke 3.8. It only has 250 miles on it now, so I haven't gotten on it much. This one is also cammed mainly for mid-high RPM usage (which is how I like it), but it does seem to have a little more torque, and it starts to pull rather nicely as it approaches 3000 RPM (where I'm currently cutting it off because I'm shooting for a gentle break-in). Assuming the engine survives its break-in well, it should be nearly bulletproof--the only stock part of the rotating assembly is the crank, and nobody that I know of has broken one of those yet. I've got forged, dished pistons and H-beam rods, so it should be good for some abuse.
In case you're wondering why I didn't just get a V8 at that point, I already had good heads and intake manifolds for a V6. In my mind, it just wasn't worthwhile to have somebody rewire the whole car to put in a V8.
And, as discussed in the thread I linked to, the handling just got 100% better.

#5, yeah, I wouldn't have gone V8, just for the re-wiring PITA... plus the cost of everything else, you might as well stick with your V6/Handling performance vision anyways. |

I've had an SC on order since late last year (and yes, some people have finally gotten theirs) so it should have more than enough power when all is said and done anyway. I'm basically trying to build something that looks pretty generic, has the crappy factory interior, and generally looks like a rental car with better wheels, but which has roughly enough power to break high 12s in the 1/4 mi (it will, when supercharged) and handles reasonably well. |

Considering that I've been in WA for 5 months and I've had a running car for a total of 1 month during that time, yes, I'm rather happy to have it again. |

I was in Washington (state) in August... the traffic was frickin' nuts around Seattle...
I went up to Vancouver area, and took the Ferry over to Victoria to see my bro... |

The traffic in the whole greater Puget Sound area is pretty awful in general. I live only 2 miles from work, and wouldn't have it any other way. |

#17, Sweet, most of the guys I know chortle at the thought of decking out a V6 Stang. But if it's done right it can be very fast indeed. How many horses does that make? |

#18, Danged if I know. Since it looks like I'm going to have to do something rather severe to a certain jackass in Michigan, it could be another couple months before I supercharge (I will probably try to get my money back and get a Procharger), so I might have it dynotuned in NA form at some point.
The 3.8L V6 it was based on was around 210 at the rear wheels, but it had some major issues that prevented it from being optimal--It should have been good for around 230 at the ground, but it had exhaust flow issues and was rather busy grinding off its cam lobes. Good NA 4.2 builds are often good for 250+ at the wheels, or 300ish at the crank. I'm running a little wider lobe separation and very slightly lower compression, but it seems reasonably stout for an NA engine, and it's built to "live" at 450 RWHP with a poweradder.
