A clearer rear-side picture with better coloring:

The interior (screaming orange dash and all):

The engine. I'm rather curious about that custom air cleaner. Does that constitute a "filter on a stick"?:

Okay, so here's the story:

Since my mother wrecked her Intrepid and the bodyshop is being damn slow, she's been driving the Ram (it technically is hers, afterall) and I've been driving the Rambler. However, after the Rambler stranded me at around 2:30 Thursday morning (luckily it was just corroded battery terminals, but the brakes started leaking and turn signals stopped working that night, too), I decided it was high time to get a dependable vehicle for my daily driving, that way I can fix up the Rambler the way it deserves and ultimately sell it.

I found out that this truck, which has belonged to Tim The Friendly Local Mechanic for about 12 years, was for sale for a very reasonable price. I was familiar with the truck, since I drove it a few times for odd jobs when I used to hang out at the shop and rode with his son in it to Jackson to pick up the Peugeot's new engine around two years ago. So he cut me a great deal, and I drove out in it.

It was originally red over red, but Tim has put a LOT of money into it over the years. Here are a few of the highlights:

The orange paint
'98 grille with billet inserts
Custom rear roll pan and heavy duty tow hitch
All genuine leather interior (close to $1000 invested on it alone, and it covers everything from the door panels to the headliner)
Eagle billet wheels
Billet steering wheel
Custom gauges and LED temperature control
Extensive Sony Xplod audio system (yeah, I know, but it works)
Rhino Liner
Metal tool box
A few hop-up items

#5, Actually, it's quite a mover. It's a TPI V8, and I'm pretty sure it's a 350.

I drove up to the gas station to wash it prior to these pictures and opened it up along the way....it's got more kick than the Ram, anyway.

#7, Nice, congratulations. Just take off those silly orange wipers and you've got something good.

#6, The good is basically everything I listed. Now for the bad and the ugly:

Bad:
*The clear corner lights
*The damn orange dash. I'm thinking about getting some imitation leather in a close match to the real stuff inside and just covering the whole thing.
*Sony Xplod. Like I said, it works, but not only is it an obnoxious design (cascading LED screen, rotating cover, and all), but it doesn't sound like a high-dollar stereo should.
*The billet wheel. I don't like it much. Tim's offered to throw the original steering wheel in, though, so that's cool.
*The painted wiper arms, although that's an easy fix.

Ugly:
*It could stand to be repainted.
*The rear roll pan is damaged. I might just stick a bumper on it...it would be easier, more practical, and probably better looking.
*The radio antenna isn't hooked up currently, so no reception.
*The tailgate handle doesn't work.
*The passenger's window doesn't let down.

Not bad, although the wheels kind of scare me. :p

#10, I sorta like the wheels, although I've been thinking that polished five-spoke Americans would look really good on it....

Bah, I shouldn't tempt myself. There are more important matters to be dealt with. ;)

Also, I like the way the later grille looks on it with the quad lights.

#14, Basically I'm going to correct a few things I don't like, like the clear corners, the wiper arms, maybe the dash (it's kinda starting to grow on me), the steering wheel, etc.

But first I'm going to work out the kinks, like the radio antenna, the passenger's side power window motor, the paint and bodywork, and the like. Also, I found out driving to work last night that the high beams don't work either, so I'll also need to get right on that.

You actually use your highbeams? I only use mine to terrorize motorists who insist on going 5 mph below the speed limit in the left lane.

#16, Well, I live in a rural area without much nighttime ambient light. You kinda need 'em to spot deer and such going down the road in the pitch black at around 45 mph.

#17, I know what you mean. There's this main road that goes through the state forest around here and a couple times I've seen deer just standing in the middle of it.
