#3, Pontiacs used to be not totally unknown in germany, partly because of classic car-enthusiasts, partly because US-GIs brought some of em in. You could also have your Opel dealer import whatever GMs brands had to offer. The Trans Sport minivan was particularly popular. Saturn however, is completely unknown over here.
Everything I know about Saturn, I learned here... which is mainly "SATURN PERFORMANCE, Y00!
Btw... is Geo also GM? |

#7, I guess GM is trying to improve Opels image with something sporty after they thoroughly ruined it with crappy ecoboxes. |

The Vauxhall VX220/Opel Speedster were too hardcore for the common public. |

This could bring Saturn out of the slump the Ion created, and hopefully reach the German public as well. |

#12, GM is struggling with its brands on the german market as it is. Opel is recovering, Saab is doing not so good and the "new" Daewoo/Chevrolets... we´ll see.

#13, I woulda thought the Opel Speedster woulda sold like hotcakes to the upper middle class speed freaks. I knew GM was struggling abroad (and everywhere else for that matter) as far as Saab goes I think they have the same problem BMW had before it redesigned the 3, 5, and 7 series, and that was that all their cars looked the same and they never made any big strides in restyling for like 10 years at a time. |

#14, The Opel Speedster and Speedster Turbo are excellent driving machines almost on par with Lotus. They´ve got great handling and power but absolutely zero practicality. Consider cars like the Z4, TT, SLK or MX5, which are less suitable for the Nürburgring but are also less likely to break your back and deafen your ears while still being fast enough for some fun. You desribed the Saab-situation very well... btw, I think Audi has is worse than BMW in terms of indistinguishable models. |
