Allegedly the Monaro used in this chase, when acquired by the production team, was an uber-clean gold over tan base model 6 cylinder automatic bought from the original owner. The production team fixed up the outside with the requisite custom pieces (including a dummy second exhaust pipe to make it look like a V8), then drove it down the road and deliberately scraped it down some guard rails to bend up the sides of it.
