#1, I'm not a subculture expert so enlighten me...
What is Emo (or emo) anyway? Some sort of goth spin-off or splinter group? Seems they give gothic metal a bad name as a lot of people confuse those two gruops.

#2, Oddly enough Goth and Emo can't really be defined very well. But I can give you part of the thesis I wrote about different types of douchebags for my english composition class:
The Goth: Also known as the “Emo kid” and “The artsy faggot” the Goth is characterized as being very slender with an unhealthy pallor to his skin and a severe yet imaginary persecution complex. He prefers to clothe himself in dark shades, usually gray black and purple and is known to add copious amounts of gels and coloring to his hair. Not to mention his penchant for shoving chrome needles into the soft flesh in his ears, tongue, eyebrows and lips. The Goth has an unhealthy fixation on death and the occult and likes to engage in activities he refers to as, “cries for help” these usually are classified as suicide attempts. Like the consumption of multiple analgesics (pain-killers) at once, or perhaps the severance of the radial artery (wrist slitting)

#3, (Cont)These “cries” are usually attention getting devices when the Goth feels that he is unappreciated or unwanted by his peers and family members. This is strange because everything about the Goth’s personality and character is extremely repellant. Additionally he claims that he has no qualms with other people’s opinions of him, which implies that he contradicts himself every time he dons his Coal Chamber emblazoned garb and dyes his hair a bright shade of green.
Final Analysis: The Goth is basically an extreme form of an attention whore, demanding that other people accept the way he has chosen to dress and act or he’ll threaten kill himself over and over again. I’ll state again that the main logic behind the behavior of a Goth is that no-one likes him and he’s right, but it’s only because it’s his own fault.

Mind you this is not a professional analysis by any means, it's just one man's take on these idiots, but I'd like to think it's pretty acurate.

#3, Oh.
I dress in dark shades, gray, black, dark red, I have a sort of fixation on death and somewhat on the occult (which results from the fact that I'm deeply interested in ancient/early medieval history). I like... errr... darkness. It seems so elegant and cool. It draws me. I listen to weird music (goth melodic opera heavy metal anybody???) and my life tends to be fucked up but I don't cry in my room. I shout curses and throw things around. And I tend to treat things with... a distance. My favourite saying is: "we are all going to die". Then I laugh. Because, what can you do about it? Start running around and crying? Just take it on the chin moterfucker and carry on.

#5, The fuck? A lot of teenagers with a *insert a Japanese name here* "I spend my entire life in my room" syndrome.

#6, Heh, my explanation may have been long winded but I liked to think that it's fairly concise. "Emo" is obviously short for emotional so there's a hint. My sister hangs around with some of these kids so I have some prior knowledge

#8, I always thought that gothic subculture had strong ties with the headbanger crowd that tried (with varying degrees of success) to infuse their music with classical elements.
Show just how careful one has to be with "cataloguing" people.

#9, No, they're more into bands like Hawthorne Heights and Dashboard Confessional, they're kind of like an imitation of the Goth movement that was popular in the 90s but they're not that extreme.
