I wholeheartedly approve of GM deciding to make Saturn into basically Opel USA ^_^

Considering Opels are being designed quite nicely lately, and they are now some of the most well-built cars from Germany. They get higher marks than Mercedes or BMW.

#1, I NEVER thought I'd want a Saturn, or a modern American GM sedan... until now. Honestly, why didn't they do this from the beginning? How do you 'fight imports' with the same old formula? Saturns were HORRIBLE cars for the longest time, I've had the distinct displeasure of driving many for some distance over the years so I'm speaking from experience. I assume these are being built in America?

#2, They probably are going to be built in America, which I don't see a problem with. Saturn builds their cars far away from the corrupt unions in Detroit. (Tennessee IIRC)

...oh, and as a sidenote, I saw a Saturn Sky on the road today... even with the top up, it was GORGEOUS.

#3, Hope it handles better than the Solstice! BTW, DiRF, if anyone knows this I'm sure it's you but the Sky's styling comes from a Vauxhaul concept called the Lightning, which the Brits have been bitching and moaning about for years, ever since it was canned.

I dig this, I never thought I'd take a Saturn over a Pontiac or Chevy

definately nice.. i'm happy with GMs move to make Saturn "Opel USA" ... it'll take time, but it should turn public perception of the brand around eventially

While all this is speculative at this time, multiple sources say that both AURA models will feature V6 powerplants. The AURA XE will reportedly get a 230hp 3.5 High Value V6 with variable valve timing, while the XR variant will be motivated by 250+hp 3.6 L VVT High Feature V6 mated to a 6-speed transmission. Incidentally, the latter engine may end up offering more horsepower than either of the V6s available in the Honda Accord or the all-new Toyota Camry. A 4-cylinder hybrid-electric AURA Green Line version is rumored for 2008.

Can they even still be called "Government Motors," considering they've paid back their government loan?

#18, Since the government has a controlling interest due to majority ownership, yes, I think so.
