The BMW Mini. Uhm, how about no. That's the only one on this list that I have a problem with.

#1, Surely they meant the original Mini... right?

Okay...so you don't like the new Mini. Alright, then let's get rid of the 300C, the C6, and that Godawful STI too. If a minivan can be on that list, then a Mini Cooper sure as hell can.

#3, Thing is, the new Mini is big and expensive. Nothing like the old one. At least the handling is said to be good.
For me, the new Mini to the old one is like the old VW Beetle to the old one. Just a name with almost noting left of the legend.

#3, are you stupid? the minivan revolutionized the car industry. the caravan/voyager helped save chrysler from bankruptcy also. not to mention the greatest compromise between ease of driving ang hauling capability. the C6 and the 300C are the only things detroit have gotten right in the last 20 years. and the sti brought (reliable) AWD high performance at a decent price. why is the mini on there? because its cute? i dont think the nsx should be on there either.

The BMW Mini was a gimmicky addition to an already bursting-at-the-seams compact car class. It's not particularly small. It's not particularly cheap. There's nothing really that special about it other than the history that BMW acquired through their checkbook.

I think the NSX deserves its place. It was one of the first attempts by Honda to move "upscale, " it employed aluminum body construction that was rare at the time, and it was notable for being one of the few exotic-type cars that was actually reliable and practical for everyday use. I think it belongs because it was a genuinely unique vehicle.

The NSX was created when a vehicle like it hadn't really existed before, for that price. At the time of its release, it could squash a LOT of other sportscars, performancewise. The only thing that hurt its image is that Honda kept it in production for so long with minimal updates, and the rest of the sportscar world caught up, and some passed it in performance for a cheaper price.

#5, The NSX changed the way Ferrari and Lamborghini do business. It may not have been so significant on it's own. but it really did change the way exotics are built.

#6, You can get a Cooper S for around 22k. N/A Mini's can be had for cheaper.

#10, That sounds cheap for today, but the originals were closer to an English 'Volks Wagen'. Issagonis' car was meant to be cheap transportation. That it was also stylish was the direct result of it's form follows function design, not the other way around as with the new (style over function). Think of why most of you like Jeeps and old aluminum Land Rovers for, originality and purposefulness. The 1959 car sold for something like 180 Pounds!

It's not so much that the new Mini is a bad car, but to call it one of the top 20 most important cars of the last two decades....no freakin' way is it that special. The Chrysler K-car was more influential than the new Mini.
