Description:
The DiRFcamera.

This thing is a dinosaur... it's over 8 years old, its screen is severely damaged, but still kinda works... I rarely use the screen anyway, since this fucker EATS AA batteries. But it does take a purdy picture... if only I could figure out how to increase the resolution... it can also supposedly take video... damned if I know how to do that though.

#18, Costco has lots of cameras including an Olympus Stylus 1010 point-and-shoot right now for $150. 10.1 megapixel, 7x optical zoom, Li-ion battery pack. You aren't looking for really professional photo quality, are you? Just something that takes decent pictures when needed? Hell, my recently-purchased Kodak Z980 good for 12MP and 24x zoom (and includes a traditional viewfinder in addition to its 3" LCD) was less than $300 after a rebate (and came with a free SD card), but they aren't selling that anymore.

#21, Well, see, that's the problem... this DC260 was close to being a professional-level digital camera back in the day... I've used some other modern digital cameras, and their pictures were not as nice as the ones this camera *used* to take.

Ok, someone recommended the Canon Pro1 to me... and the more I look into it, the more I'm digging it... I'll keep an eye out for any good deals out there.

#18, I'm not sure what you're looking for in terms of size, but this looks like a nice replacement:

It's right around $250 and seems to fit the bill. You can look around the B&H site for lots of other cams. They have a nice selection.

Alright, after looking at my budget again, I realized I can't exactly drop $150-200 on a camera right now... so I set my sights lower, and bought a Canon S1 off of eBay for a hair over $60... am anxiously awaiting it.

I've got good news, and I've got bad news...

The bad news is, the Canon is now giving back shots that have a purple tint, if it gives back an image at all... meaning the CCD sensor has crapped out.

The good news is, there's a recall notice on the S1's CCD sensor. So that means, even though the camera is 5 years old, Canon is paying for it to be shipped to their repair center for a free repair... and their call-center is in AMERICA! Staffed by people who know what they're doing! After the past four months dealing with Acer's awful customer service bullshit, it was almost a pleasure calling Canon's customer service line.

I'm gonna get the UPS shipping label via email next week, and then out it goes to Canon.

Got the camera back from Canon... CCD sensor replaced, lens cleaned and polished, internal electrics readjusted...

Tested out the video mode for the first time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWlXywhSGGo

#34, She just turned 5 last week.

She still has a high-pitched meow because she was spayed before she reached maturity... so retaining the high "kitten" type of meowing can happen in that situation.

#35, nice. :) I love cats and dogs equally, but I'd rather have a few cats than a few dogs. :) We have too many animals right now :(

#32, I sent my Nikon for repair service, the auto-focusing would sometimes hit or miss. I sent it in about a week ago, I should have it back by next week. The good thing is that it's a warranty repair. Another thing is that the service center is in NY and the website lets you check the status of the repair, step by step. Even detailed repair info; if it's a major repair, minor repair, adjustments, etc.. Very helpful. Although I do miss not having my D300.
