Description:
éX-Driver, a 6-episode OAV series. I found it to be very enjoyable, and I liked the actual licenced cars they used in the series...

-Lotus Super Seven (yellow)
-Lotus Europa (white, mistranslated as "Lotus Europe" though *cringe*)
-Lancia Stratos (blue)

Very odd for an Anime series to have decidedly NON-Japanese cars... well, there IS a 22B Impreza early on, but it gets wrecked :(

A few other vehicles of interest pop up throughout the show... ***SPOILERS***

-A heavily modified Daihatsu Midget II... how modified? It can keep up with the Stratos.
-Ducati superbike from the early '90s
-A walk past the main garage at one point reveals a Toyota 2000GT, a Countach, and a Porsche 911 Turbo.

...and then there are the villians' "import tuner" style cars towards the latter episodes... Supra , FD RX-7, MR2 Spyder... but the "boss" villian drives a stock Caterham Super Seven... black.

...oh, and the good guys' boss drives a Lotus Eleven... don't see much of that car though :(
...and a white Miata with a hardtop and rollcage shows up near the end too.

Well, it is a very neat OVA series to watch... entertaining... but really, after watching Initial D, this series sorta seems like a slight ripoff of Initial D...

It IS interesting that everything is hand-drawn... no CGI for the driving scenes...

Well, I decided to make a moderately sizable investment in a set of "You're Under Arrest" DVDs (18 DVDs, comprising 63 episodes and one movie)... same mangaka/creator as éX-Driver...

You're Under Arrest focuses on two female police officers that patrol in a nitrous-injected, turbocharged Honda Today patrol car... I caught an episode where they were chasing an accurately drawn/animated Lancia Delta Integrale, and I knew I'd want to see the rest of the series...

[edit] Incidentally... this investment is why I'm trying to sell my Initial D DVDs :P

#7, Oh, my [now massive] Anime and manga collection only exists because I sold off most of my [once massive] Nascar diecast collection.

[edit] ...in case anyone's curious... my anime DVD collection: http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/...09anime1013.jpg

#8, exactly. I'm selling the stuff I used to collect to build up higher quality 1:18s. and what not.
I have way too much car memorobilia, from foreign magazines (UK, Spanish, German, French, Turkish, etc) to car brochures and emblems, to 1:18s and smaller stuff.

The above troublemaker has gotten me hooked on 1:18s now. RRB and I have been doing a diecast exchange for the past month or so and I'm running out of room. o.o;

...But it's so much fun!

Every time I see a neat 1:18, or even a neat 1:24, I desperately fight the urge to buy it... I know I don't have the room. I actually have a box of 1:18s I don't even have room for... they were ones that I left in PA in '02, and my dad brought them down with him last year... the box just sits in the hallway.

#6, Halfway through the first season of You're Under Arrest... I'm really quite enjoying it... the cars and motorcycles in the show are really fun to watch... one thing though... there are two side-characters in the show whose simple presence seems to make the episode good or bad...

- Nakajima's father... if he's in the episode, it's bound to be a really fun episode...
- "Strike-Man"... if he's in the episode, I really feel like I want to skip the whole ep.

#13, Well, completed the first season... last episode was rather funny, they yell at some guys "in an American car"... which turns out to be an '80-'82 Corvette... the engine sound from it was spot-on, too.

#15, Well, the only thing éX-Driver and You're Under Arrest have in common are the original creator/mangaka... and the only other series he's famous for creating is Ah! My Goddess!...which isn't really car-centric, though highly-detailed vehicles show up ever so often (or so I'm told... I've never seen any of that series)

-OVA (4 episodes, 1994)
-1st Season (47 episodes 1996-97)
-OVA ("Diverting Traffic at the Beach", 1 episode 1998)
-Mini-Specials (20 mini-episodes and one full-length episode 1999)
-The Movie (1999)
-2nd Season (American distributor attached lame "Fast & Furious" subtitle to it... 26 episodes 2001)

So I watched, and really enjoyed You're Under Arrest: The Movie... a few weeks later, I saw bits and pieces of "Live Free or Die Hard", and then read the whole plot on Wikipedia...

In both:
- The main villain is a disaffected former member of a governmental organization.
- The main villain lost credibility in said organization because he tried to sound the alarm about cyber-warfare, but was ignored.
- The main villain then uses said cyber-wafare against the governmental organization.
- The cyber-warfare disrupts traffic patterns, causing massive congestion, and planned cyber-warfare is intent on disrupting the world economy.
- A police vehicle is launched into a hovering helicopter to disable the helicopter.

...I should probably mention that You're Under Arrest: The Movie predates Live Free or Die Hard by seven years.
