Description:
The mouth of the beast: DOHC engines designed by Aurelio Lampredi are a legend. Here we have a 1.8 turbocharged version with 165hp @ 5800rpm. Tuning potential is almost unlimited: stock N/A 1.8 engines didn't mind being revved to 8000rpm and you can even buy a 16v head.

Beats and 165hp dont normally go in the same sentence..but in a 2400lb car..not bad.

Talked with an owner of a 1.8 turbo Alfa 75. He says that these engine have nothing to do with Fiat DOHC family but that they are instead based on Alfa Romeo racing engines from the fifties o_O

I wouldn't say it was unlimited.
Recall the Ford RS200.

#10, "Power came from a 1.8 litre, single turbocharged Ford/Cosworth "BDT" engine producing 250 horsepower in road going trim and between 350 and 450 horsepower in racing trim; upgrade kits were available for road-going versions to boost power output to over 300 horsepower."

Yea but the engine was good only for 10 hours. The turbo would fry the $30,000 engine.
I'm referring to the E2 which made 650 hp.

#9, This must be bullshit. True, Italian engines were always ahead of their time and, yes, there were DOHC race engines even before WW2 but... I just can't believe an all-aluminium DOHC engine dates back to 1950 even if it was a race engine once.
