nice find - as a WWII fan myself, this isn't something that's brought up a lot as far as the children's culture at the time and as such, i've never seen it until now.

and before someone accuses me of being a nazi sympathizer, i'm a fan of the era from a historical and war strategy standpoint.

I wish people would realize that WB cartoons from the '30s '40s and '50s were NOT aimed at children... they were meant to entertain adults and aired before feature presentations of non-kiddie movies in theatres... that's why they were so good, they were meant for a more mature audience and did not make a habit of insulting people's intelligence.

The Disney wartime cartoons though, whilst they were also NOT AIMED AT CHILDREN, were just blind propaganda indicitive of the the era.

But still, the point in the second part of my post still stands... the WWII propaganda cartoons, no matter who made them, were NOT part of the "children's culture"...

I know, just joshin' ya. And I can just imagine that uproar in the EXTREMELY unlikely event they showed them on TV, or at least during times when children are watching. Except maybe Adult Swim or something like that.

I have this episode on a Disney tape I got when I was a kid. It was a Donald Duck one. Has a yellow cover. So if they didn't target it at kids they probably shouldn't have put it on a kids video tape to be sold.
Going to dig it up next time I'm at my mom's place.

I'm surprised this was on a "Disney tape"... Disney is well-known for burying the cartoons they'd like to forget, this being one of them.

According to Wikipedia, this cartoon was REMOVED from general circulation shortly after the war, and was only officially released in 2004, only in a special DVD set... so if you have this cartoon on tape, it's a bootleg.

I'm pretty sure if Disney won't release a cartoon in America, they won't release them somewhere else either.

Now if you mean an "import" tape or whatnot, then that usually means bootleg too.

#4, that makes sense. i'm no disney or cartoon expert obviously.
looking at it now in this context, i'm sure a lot of that would be way over most kids' heads.

so what the hell did kids have besides radio shows for them back then?

#11, It came from Eatons department store so I'm doubting that its a bootleg.
I'll pic up the tape next time I'm in the city and pull the info from it.
Was from a whole series of tapes. You could get Mickey Mouse, Goofey, Donald Duck, and pretty much episode tapes for each character.

This is definitely a thread where I had some misconceptions and I learned something new... I really am curious about that tape, 'cause if it's a real Disney release, it contradicts existing information available about this specific cartoon.

#19, I'm curious too.
Its been an extremely long time since I've even looked at the tape. Luckily I know exactly where it is. By this weekend I should have it for us to investigate.
