Description:
Ichijou Karen... what, it's not normal for the most timid and shy girl in the class to be able to carry an upright piano completely by herself? :P

I love Ichi-san ^_^

#1, I know. The only reason I know what that is from is from the SA descriptions when someone asks "What the hell is that from?"

Shoe flies and hits someone? You mean this? http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/...iyoosakakc8.gif
That's from Azumanga Daioh, a bit older than School Rumble... Azumanga Daioh aired in 2002...whereas School Rumble started airing in late '04, and the second season just wrapped up 3 weeks ago...

#5, Different original mangaka, different directors, different animation studios... they're both just somewhat silly series set in Japanese high schools (Ok, Azumanga's EXTREMELY silly)... School Rumble differs in that it focuses on romantic relationships and focuses on males too... Azumanga is pretty much only focused on 6 or so girls in the class... and their teachers.

Oh, and to clarify something... School Rumble *is* a series, not a movie... 52 episodes over two seasons with two bonus episodes...and there will be a third season (most likely called School Rumble Sangakki, since the first was [retroactively called] Ichigakki and the second was Nigakki.)

Azumanga Daioh I have heard described as "The Anime that launched a thousand memes."

...oh, and School Rumble is not currently "officially" available in America yet... Funimation has licenced it, and will start releasing the DVDs sometime next year... but the series does have a small American fanbase already, due to fansubs acquired via torrents (or by idiots that buy DVDs of the fansubs and get ripped off)...

The fansubs of School Rumble (more specifically, the ones done by the group known as WannabeFansubs) are actually VERY good... but they stopped at episode 12 of the second season, because they refused to continue fansubbing a series that had just been licenced for American release, even though that release was a year or so away... but I did get the rest of season 2 from another fansub group, which wasn't as good, but was still watchable.

As-- (ran out of space... continuing with new posts)

As a sidenote, I do think it's damn cool that I was able to watch the final episode of season two fansubbed into English a mere 3 weeks after the episode first aired in Japan ^_^

#13, if the guy from my first year jap class was 1/2 as big into bootlegging/non-authorized animes as he claimed, it may have been his work.

He didn't do the translation for his group but he showed me how he cleaned up the video and made it smoother. Some rips were complete shit and he had to do a lot of revision. I forget their name but they were responsible for about 20% of the illegal/non-authorized re-dubz of anime. Seeing his hard drive, his credentials from a good school and his ability to produce media virtually on demand, I believe it was somewhere near that.

#14, Fansubs are actually very popular for Anime that is not licenced for America yet (or is licenced by a complete shit distributor, ala Initial D) ...and the Anime production community generally have a "fine, you all can do it" approach as long as the fansubbers only do unlicenced stuff, as it helps build up a fanbase for a series, so it'll probably sell better when it IS officially released.

Azumanga Daioh is a perfect example... it was a Fansub darling in '02...and when it was finally released, it was a MONUMENTAL hit for ADV Films... if not for the Fansubs... "Azu-manga-what? What the hell is that? I'm not buying that!"

School Rumble is actually infamous since its production companies was one of the first to come out AGAINST fansubs, even though the series was, at the time, not yet licenced for America... it caused a backlash, and many people feel it would have been licenced and released sooner, and would probably have been more popular if the fansubbers had been left alone...

Oh, and I don't think a single group does "20%" of all fansubs... that's just not possible, considering how many Anime series there ARE out there, and how many have yet to be licenced... and also, many times, several different groups will fansub the same series, which I'm grateful for, since like I said, WannabeFansubs stopped after season 2 episode 12... the rest I had to download from some group called "Your-Mom Fansubs" (not kidding)... decent quailty, but nowhere near WF.

Also, some group called "SHRIMPS" did some of the first season, but DAMN, their fansubs were absolutely horrible... crappy video and audio quality, flat, harsh looking subtitles, no "translators notes" or explanations, and they didn't translate any Japanese text that appeared onscreen...

#17, well, they may have meant in Canada.

This group was big like 20 people. They did like 2 series at a time.
