it wasn't horrible, but interior noise isn't great. Plus, we got the auto, which makes it feel slower than it is, and the drone at highway speeds was kinda annoying. Also, one thing I don't really like is the stereo is all interface, so at night with the stereo off, there appears to be a big black rectangular blob in the middle of the dash. |

#3, eh. Does it still feel quality like the older ones? I know the styling has gone way overboard but I'm still interested in driving one. |

#4, it feels bland. Although I've never driven an older one, so I wouldn't know, although it drives nothing like my aunt's old '97, which is probably good, because hers was shit. |

it feels smooth, but it has an annoying drone at highway speeds. I like it, but I like our Mazda 3 more, and we got better MPG out of it too. Although, it's probably because the Jetta was an auto vs our car's 5 spd. |

fast forward nearly ten years.
I've driven a couple of these. Five with a five and five with an auto. Both are crap; 5 spd is fine but its slow, and it likes to rev without moving. Oddly enough, the five-with-five combo actually nets worse MPG than autobox, and the cliutch is probably one of the least-smooth I've encountered.
The "drone" I spoke of is actually a fault of the DSG not deciding which gear to stay in on the highway, and could lead to potential trans failure at around 75,000 miles or so.
Oh, and the blank space in the interior fascia when the lights go out is a nice touch. Especially in the summer when the entire car is fucking hot because its too dark to see the HVAC and as a result, the interior plastic is hot enough to scorch your metal bracelet. Lovely.
And don't get me started on the rust problems these cars have. |
