Description:
'56 Continental Mark II. I reluctantly classify this as a car, as there isn't a "Work of art" category. |

Cost $10,000* when new, about 50 years ago. About $68,000 in today's money.
*1957 price

#4, I think the Navigator tops the list at about 50K, the Town Car is around 45K and the MKZ rounds out the list at about 30K.
As far as competing with the Krauts: it'll be very difficult with the rather underwhelming Ford chassis to work with, espescially since the company seems to be scared to toss a V8 into the MKS and make it a half-decent S-class alternative or revamp the image of the Town Car from granny carrying luxobarge because they don't want to scare away a demo that's been good to them. They've had mild success with the MKX which I think they should capitalize on by getting rid of the Mark LT and focusing those funds into making the small SUV into a more approachable M-Class-type vehicle. And with some chassis-tuning, a better engine and some bodywork the MKZ could go up against stuff like the C-class. |
