Wow - plastic.

This stuff if there for 2 reasons: To be aesthetically pleasing to the owner who would likely never open the hood for any reason except to look at the plastic - and for the mechanic to toy around with for half an hour so that it can be tied into the labour costs.

I thought covering the engine was, y'know, the purpose of a hood. :p I hate these things.

#4, thank you. I know on my 3100 there no giant engine cover, but on the 3800 there is a nice big old plastic "cover" you can take off. If I got a car with a 3800, to hell with that cover.

it's like one of those stickers on electronics that says "removing this sticker will void warranty."
in this case i bet the dealer could stick it to you if you did remove it saying you damaged something when all you wanted to do was change the fucking oil.

Just another example of cars going from works of art to industrial-designed crap.

After thinking of the details that automakers used to pour into engine compartments to make them look like horsepower in sculpture, this is just downright insulting.

#7, it think it's sad that cars are now becoming fucking blobs that do everything for you.

#8, Disposable utensils, in other words. Just like electric can openers.

Although, it really fits the modern technological idiom: Ooooh and aaaah over something long enough and it'll eventually become old hat. Vacuum cleaners used to be a big deal; people were fascinated by them. Now think of how we casually buy and throw them away. Refrigerators used to be a big deal: Just look at '50s-vintage fridge ads. Now they're nothing special. Cars took longer for the everyman's novelty to wear thin due to the nature of the invention, but it's starting to happen.

It's starting to happen to computers, too: People used to make a huge deal out of their new computer, now it's nothing special. I think these days the big "it" inventions seem to be the cell phone and the MP3 player. I wonder how long before they'll be passe, everyday items?

#9, I think mp3 players are starting down that road already, at least on a mainstream basis. Everything I hear on campus is about what phone this and what phone that.

Hell there's no such thing as a cell phone anymore. They're all cameras and mp3 players and portable gaming consoles now, but more than anything they're a fashion accessory save for those who buy them and actually use them for work/emergencies.

Also, soon all the functions will be amalgamated together into one unit and sold by the big companies like Microsoft and Apple and whatever, it's already starting to happen. There'll be different models and different service providers and different contracts and whatever and each cycle they'll be getting smaller and smaller until they can be surgically implanted into your brain and everytime you're late on a bill Verizon or Zovuzazz or whoever will send mild electronic shocks down your spine until they either kill you or have to audit you.

#12, I like my simple phone. It has a camera, but I use it call people. That's all I know about it.

#12, Exactly. More of a status symbol than a communication device now.

#13, Enjoy it while it lasts, soon it'll be able to hear you're thoughts and report back to your phone company with information about your demographic.

my cell phone plays mp3s and has a camera, and i hardly ever use those features, but i did load it with some metal songs to pass time if im walking or sitting around somewhere waiting, camera sucks so i avoid it, but use it if theres something really picture worthy, but i havent accually been able to use it as a phone much lol, lacking friends lately, they're all moving away from my lil hick town

My last cell phone was the size of a cinder block and took three months to charge, and if you talked on it any longer than seven minutes it would become extremely hot and sparks would shoot out of the mouth piece. Also the antennae was so large whenever I used it I caused small planes to crash.
