oooh - I hate Grand Ams... at least here in MI, it seems that the majority of them are driven by women who

a) drive too fast
b) don't know how to drive
c) think the Grand Am is a sports car

agreed. :) My friend has one, and she fits all of the above. Sadly, I like the styling of them, and I am looking for a cheaper replacment for the truck. I don't need (or want) a 4 door vehicle, either. :(

#2, 4-banger or 3.1? I don't see any V6 badges on the fenders

#3, supposedly this one is a 3.1. I don't like the idea of the Quad 4. Heard WAY TOO MANY horror stories about em.

#4, yeah the 3.1 is pretty dependable... the Quad-4 - runaway!

#5, word. I've hard that one a few times.Headgaskets, right? Oh, I was looking into a Malibu possibly or an older Monte (SS?), but alas living in a rust laden state, none have been found in decent shape. :( I looked at an '81 Malibu 4 door, but with only 53k on it, the whole underside was shot with rust, and apparently the rear quartersn were bondo. :(

#6, yeah, g-bodies get eaten up real quick... you may want to consider a b-body instead or you have to go South to find a clean g. Luckily mine is originally from Tennessee and was brought up to Michigan to sell.

I've thought about getting a car hauler and going South to buy older rust free cars and bring them back up to sell... but I'm not sure if the gas costs would offset the profit!

#7, I found 2 in my area close to me, and one is rusty, and one is a wrecked hulk with driver's side damage, and they STILL want $3k for it. Ugh. There are a few more Caprices here, and I found a Paresienne near school. Other than that, no luck. :(

#8, yeah - I got lucky when I bought my Caprice - $1800... 68k miles - obviously a Florida (or deep south car)... ie the paint is sun faded but there was zero and I mean ZERO rust - the frame and underbody looked new. No rust on the door hinges either...

#9, Nice, that's what I'm trying to avoid. I have always wanted a big Chevy for a long time. Unfortunately, I am looking at GPs, which I also like. I found a GTP for $2900 but it has relatively high miles. :(

The Quad 4 is really an awesome motor, it just should have never been used in a mass produced car for the A/B masses, though.

#11, I love my A-Body, and it has no Quad 4, rather a 2.8 V6. But you guys knew that already.

Interestingly, I think the most Quad 4s I've seen in one place are in the collection of the San Diego Auto Museum. For whatever reason, they have a bunch of Olds Quad 4 engines in a row near the back wall.

I didn't mean A or b body platforms, but rather point A/B people.
