Well, if it's a FWD econobox from Ford it doesn't count at all...
If it's the GT trim it might slink by but the FWD hurts it, and if you're into pushrods you're SOL...
2.4L 4V DOHC engine with VVT-i helps, but 160 hp, ricer culture and no sportier trim levels doesn't...
500hp Mod V8=awesome, 2 ton curb weight, insane dealer markups and the Corvette walking up and down your ass= teh gay...
Buttload of power from N/A V6, 6 speed manual trans available, FR/AWD drivetrain, undercutting Cadillac and Mercedes and Nissan Skyline heritage=sports car for realz

#7, G35 = sports car. has all the main ingredients.
RWD, Manual Tranny, Throaty/Gurgly Exhaust Note, Sub 6 second 0-60 time, etc.

#8, Agreed.

The G35's engine, gearbox and seats are amazing. And it handles pretty fucking well.

The Eclipse, the GT 500, and the G35 are all sports cars. The Scion tC could be considered a sports car, sort of...I just think of it as a tarted-up econocar. The Focus is not a sports car.

I'd say while 4 out of the 5 above vehicles are in some way or another sports cars, the G35 is the sportiest.

Technically a sports car is a RWD roadster with two seats, so all of you = lose. :P

#12, sports car
A small, high-powered automobile with long, low lines, usually seating two persons.

[Origin: 1920-1925]

You can debate small as you choose, but compared to what were considered "sports cars" in the 1920s, all of the above cars are pretty small (the GT 500 would be a standard size, although heavier). RWD and whether or not the top goes down are irrelevant.

thank you mister dictionary. you have what sports car means but have completely missed what it means to be a sports car.

I thought sports cars were 2 door, as well (mostly)

#15, So regardless of the definition of "sports car," you believe that your idea of a sports car represents the only "true" sports cars, and the rest of them are just really....what, exactly?

By definition, these are sports cars. You could argue that these vehicles do not fall into the idiom of "sports car" as well as a Jaguar XKE, and in fact I would agree. However, these are still sports cars.

#17, Ford Focus SES sedan is a sports car?

#16, Remember the early 90s Nissan Maxima? It was sold with a "4DSC" sticker on the rear passenger windows, for Four-Door Sports Car. The term "sports car", or "sport car" as Carroll Shelby calls them, has been liberally interpreted in recent years and is apparently assumed to be synonomous with "sporty car". I'd say that a properly modded Focus can be a sporty car, but it's not a sports car. A vintage Corvette wasn't considered so much a muscle car as it was a sports car. Now we frequently refer to new Corvettes as exotics because they're so expensive and fast, but if you think about it, many of the cars we now call exotics were once called - you guessed it - sports cars.

#18, I already addressed that in an earlier post. Any future references to "these cars" are referring to the ones above which I have already identified as sports cars. That does not include the Focus.
