#2, Nope. I'd sell it and buy myslef an old Audi with a proper 5-cyl engine (inline) and real quattro, not today's fake ass shit.

#4, Crap cars?
Sorry dublovers, but the US-market-only uber-modern 150hp 2.5 inline 5 by VW has made me hate VW again.

#6, Same as you, I like slim MKI/II era WV, that were still cheap and fun. I actually thought about buying a MKII 1.8 and slowly building it up to GTi but they're too expensive for me (it's a VW, the best car in the world!!!). I hate VW because of today's heavy overpriced, unreliable models and the attitude of the whole company. The fact that it was founded by Hitler doesn't help.

#7, Hitler made the beetle cute. Porsche wanted a more tatra looking car. Yeah, they are overpriced as hell. The MKIV is a real crap shoot. A friend of mine was looking at just about every car, but focusing on altima, 1.7 EL, and a MkIV golf. I told her to not look at a MKIV because of the electrical.

The Altima is going away on thursday and I can garuantee I ain't looking at no VW dubs despite the cool ads.

#8, Things go farther. Until MKV gen, VWs were just boring, but now, the new Passat and Golf... man, they're not boring, they're ugly.

The VR5 was used in various MKIV Boras and Golfs, Euro and UK spec only IIRC. It was actually a highly acclaimed motor.

#10, Aren't you mistaking it with the VR6?
I found this: VW Golf V5. Engine: 2.3l DOHC V5, 20v, 170hp @ 6200rpm.
In other places the hp is given at 150hp.
And it couldn't have been very good as it vanished as quickly as it appeared, and info on it is scarce.

#11, No, I'm not mistaking it for the VR6. I've been reading British car mags voraciously for about ten years now, and this was a very acclaimed engine that was fitted to various fourth-gen Golf derivatives. It was cancelled due to logistical constraints and had nothing to do with it not being a good motor. I remember reading it was very smooth (suprisingly!) and delivered great torque and economy.

#15, At least my car isn't boring. And isn't a point of, er, interest to ricer/streetracer crowd.

#13, No, but the make utterly underpowered engines. Fat-ass 115hp MKIV GTi FTW!

#16, Aaaaand I'm wrong again. The 5 did get it's share of rice/bling torture, but mainly in the UK.

#17, Wrong again. That era hopefully ended with the FSI generation engines... but there is the US-only i-5. 2.5l and 150hp, holy hitler.

#16, Funny, everywhere I read reviews of VWs, they're quoted as great driving cars, fun to drive, comfortable, dependable, etc.. Doesn't sound boring to me.
