Description:
Party bird.
The story:
"so i was on my way to attend a social gathering that my parents were hosting at our river house. on my way i noticed a flock of buzzards eating some roadkill on the side of the road. as i approached them all of them flew into the woods. all of them except for this big motherfucker. he flew right out in front of me. so basically, i hit a big bird. now i am out a grille and a carbon fiber hood. buzzards...."

#5, Never had a problem with ravens/crows/rooks/magpies, etc. even though they sometimes drop nuts on the road and wait for them to be cracked open by cars (yes, I actually saw that once), hang around roadkill, etc. But I find piegons rather stupid and very slow to take off. Never hit one but they're getting cut up in major cities. |

Hahaha, those pictures are priceless, what's more this dude is out one C4rb0n F1b3r h00d!
I remember when I was on a family vacation about a million years ago, some small bird flew smack dab into our windshield and his beak got stuck in the glass. Scared the hell outta my parents, we ended up having to pull over and pry the poor little bastard out. It was gross. |

#7, Some Chicadee hit the glass porch the other day, made a big bang and there was blood everywhere. Needless to say, he didn't make it. |

#8, Yuck
#9, You should see Belle Isle, (a little patch of land off Detroits south shore) Canadian geese practically outnumber the human population, the like to run across the road, every now and then you'll see one that got ran over. They're everywhere. |

#5, Crows are pretty far from dumb. I had a friend with a pet crow that had a vocabulary larger than some mouth-breathing humans I know. |

#11, I know. All birds from that family (I don't know the English name) are pretty damn intelligent. Probably ma favourite birds right after sparrows. Sparrows are cute ;) |

#12, Yeah that thing was cool as hell. It was really sweet and affectionate and never once clawed or bit anyone in it's long life. |

#13, I've had parrots for many years now, birds really can be interesting if they are a bit intelligent. I can watch them for hours... well... I upgraded from budgie to cockateil and the motherfucker sleeps all day and literally bites the hand that feeds him >:( |

#15, Nah, the bird was obviously a difficult past. Seems like somebody squeezed him too hard or perhaps caught him the wrong way. Looks like he had a broken leg and a damaged wing, also it's very distrustful and panicks as soon as he sees human hands near him. He usually just tries to scare you but if you were to piss him off by repeatedly getting your hand to close to him or if you'd actually try to catch him (made that mistake only once)... motherfucker can chew through leather gloves and is actually smart enough to look for soft spots between your fingers... ouch. |

#17, Yeah. We slowly try to befriend him, I got so far as carrying him om my shoulder (makes an attack show/ritual from time to time but nothing more), on my finger (bit risky... sometimes he doesn't want to come and it's best to leave him alone then), it can sit on the desk/table with people around, etc. It's OK as long as it doesn't see your hands close to him.
But you always have to keep an eye on him, he has a nasty habit of checking stuff out with his beak. These birds make they own holes in the trees in nature so the beak is amazingly strong. The only thing he won't chew up is metal.
All in all I like it even though sometimes it can get on my nerves. It's a beautiful bird, long tail, big, slim wings, smooth feathers. But next time I'll buy a budgie again, a cockatiel is simply too big for my flat, it has nowhere to stretch it's wings (yes, we let him out on a 'walk' from time to time).

That's why you slow down if you see buzzards in the road. It's one of the first things you learn driving around here. That and drive 5 mph under the speed limit at night while out in the boonies....thanks to our incredibly high whitetail deer population.
I've never hit a buzzard, but I did hit some kind of songbird in the truck a couple of weeks ago. The only thing I saw was a bright-colored form moving straight for me, then I heard a thump and there was a red streak running up the windshield, dead center. Hosed it off when I got home. |
